I am taking yet again another animation class! I am pretty excited about it. We are developing the story and everything for a short animation and then actually animating it! It should be pretty interesting. Last Friday I pitched my idea and this is one of the characters sketches from it. Sadly mine didn't get chosen. it was a little long and would have been hard to animate in the time that we have. so it's ok. I am excited about the project i am working on now! I have more art for this that i will be posting soon!

Let it begin! my idea for my senior studio is to work on a portfolio that will be used directed towards a specific video game company. I will be working at trying to make it look like im already working there ha ha. my first stage is to work on a monk character class! i am referencing the Buddhist monks! I dont know at all where i am going with this yet. i am currently doing studies of real life monks and learning about them to get at better feel of what i can do with this character. i am also going to be doing a few environments for starting areas/place of origin! So I am excited about this guy and where i am going with it! more to come soon!

Back at Hasbro!

So I am back at Hasbro for another internship doing intellectual property development which ranges from character design to environments to logo design to some story elements plus a lot more. My department's focus is mainly on the entertainment side of Hasbro aka their movies, tv shows and video games which is awesome! I love working here! The people/environment make it a really fun place to work at. Plus I get discounts on Nerf guns and other hasbro toys! ftw :) So I am out in Rhode Island now and the first few pictures are of me and my buddy Justin driving out here.

Recently the College for Creative Studies had their annual end of the year art exhibit and I had over twenty pieces up on a wall! It was awesome! Sadly they already took it down but if you are in the area you can head out to the Summerset Mall where one of my pieces is still up for another week along with a some of my fellow CCS illustration buddies! It is definitely worth checking it out! :D

I went out to California a few weeks ago and visited a bunch of studios/met up with a lot of amazing people! It was awesome! I rented a car and ended up driving up to San Francisco from LA and back in two days! It was craazy! Thanks to everyone who took the time to talk to me/let me stay at their house! :D I can't wait to go and adventure some more out in California!

PS. The first pictures are of Ninja Warrior that me and friends ended up being in the audience of. The third picture is of the waterfall in Eaton Park that I hiked to. The fourth one is above the Hollywood sign that I hiked up to twice in one day. The fifth and sixth pictures are of the beach in Daly city and ended up hiking all the way down to the beach. And the final one is me eating ramen in Little Tokyo in LA. :D

Henry David Thoreau Portrait

This is a traditional oil painting that I did this past semester! I was mostly focusing on pushing my process and and making my final strong! I was also messing around with different materials. I painted this on gessoed watercolor paper on medium density fiber board where I used markers as a base and then went in with some acrylic paint and then over it again in oils. I basically rendered and painted it three times but I think it was worth it! It went pretty quickly and I am happy with the result!:D

End of the Semester!!

Yay!! I am finally posting! Sorry :*( These last two semesters have been crazy! I was Interning a Hasbro in Rhode Island last semester and it was amazing! I worked on projects for current and up coming video games, movies and TV shows along with doing some graphic design work! It was a lot of fun! I'll have to post some of my work when it finally comes out/they allow me too! This past semester I was taking 18 credits and five studios! It was intense but I am basically done with my Product minor and got a lot better with traditional and digital painting as sketching! :D Now I only have one more semester left and then ill be graduating! FTW! I cant wait! Anyways I'll be posting the mounds of artwork I have done over the past semester! Soon! :D

These are some character portraits of Sand villagers who live in the same town as the Arabian gunner that I posted a little while back. All of these characters(besides the gunner) are from the same race but belong to different branch offs from it. I tried to go for more of a sand crab kind of feel! Hope you guys like them!

Sky Giants/Creatures

Its been a little while since I have posted so I thought it was about time! I have been busy doing a bunch of renderings these past few weeks and these are a few of them. The top two are quick renderings exploring different heads and body shapes and the last one is where I took it into the final design! They are sky giants/creatures! Towards the end of working on it I thought it might be cool if they were medium sized sky creatures rather than big giant beasts but idk ha ha. I hope you like them!

Desert Oasis

These are sketches of a Desert Oasis city! They are of two different buildings that incorporate elements of the oasis into them. The first one has its own forest/garden oasis under it and is right next to the central lake. The second one is also on the holy lake and has stairs going right into it. These building are used for religious purposes and as a community gathering area.

These are some sketches that I did from reference that influenced the desert oasis' architecture.

These characters are mercenaries who use the desert oasis city for supplies and housing in between jobs and such. They are the Arabian Knights inspired by reading the Arabian Nights and looking at Arabian Nights Illustrated book. It's a really good book and can be found for pretty cheap on amazon! Anyways these characters are the Arabian Knights because they are a combination of inspiration from the Arabian nights/Arabian outfits and medieval knight armor! Hope you like them!

These are some of the weapons the Arabian Knight mercenaries use. These, like their armor, are inspired by Arabian/medieval weapons.

This is another character that I designed for the same story as the Aztec Warrior (aka a rpg video game). He's an Arabian gunner! I went through a lot of different designs for him, from cartoony to more realistic but ended up somewhere in the middle! :D

Last weekend a bunch of my Illustrator buddies and I packed into a car and drove all the way down to Columbus Ohio for S.P.A.C.E. comic convention! S.P.A.C.E. is the midwest's largest exhibition of small press and creator owned comics. I was selling my new book along with an assortment of prints and sketches. It was a lot of fun hanging out with all the different artist and meeting a lot of new people! Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

The Planetary Plant Testing Unit (PPTU) was created to experiment on different plant life from other planets and look for new sources of medicine. This PPTU's focus is on tree plant life due to the large amount of different varieties of tree life on this planet. This PPTU was placed here over fifty years ago and a city has since formed around it. It first started out as just homes and shops for the people working at the testing unit but it has since then grown and expanded with new travelers and natives expanding their community.

Below is an assignment I did for my animation class, Characters and Environments. For it I had to basically look up and test out three different styles. The three styles I decided on was a painterly/brushy style,
marko djurdjevic's style, and Sean "cheeks" Galloway's style. It was a pretty fun assignment even though my brushy style became the pallet knife style lol.. I ended up liking how the first guy;s style looked a lot so i am going to try to incorporate it with some other paintings I am working on! :D

Massive update! Part Two - End of the Fall 09 Semester

This past fall semester was crazy! I had the most classes and studios I have ever taken in a semester! I had six classes, five of which were studios, on top of all the backgrounds I was producing for My Dad the Giant! It was crazy hard but I got a lot better at time management lol! I had a 3 Illustration painting classes, Invented Environments, Advanced Illustration Techniques and Book Cover Illustration, along with two Product Industrial Design classes, Freshman Product Studio and Vis Com II. I got a lot better at painting people, environments and painting digitally along with getting better at rendering and designing products! oh yeah I got better at perspective too ha ha... But anyways here are some of my Vis Com I and II sketches and renderings from last semester and the semester before!

I will post some of the other pieces from this semester eventually. I still want to touch some of them up! :D

Massive Update! Part one - Noel Night and Gallery Opening

Well it's been a while since I last posted here so I thought it was about time for a massive update! Soo much has happen since my last post!

First off there was Noel Night! Noel Night happens every December and Detroit's whole cultural area, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Science Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Historical Museum, along with others, participate! It was really fun! Jongmee and myself shared a huge fourteen foot table and sold prints, holiday cards, framed pieces, along with a few other things! It was really fun and I met a lot of nice people there! Below are two of the paintings that I did for noel night/the holiday season! :D

I sold small and large prints and holiday card versions of these at Noel Night along with a bunch of my other pieces I did throughout the last year and a half.

Also in this past December I had my first solo gallery show that lasted two weeks! It was crazy getting everything together for it but was really worth it! It was really great to see everyone's reaction to my art! It was in the U245 gallery at the College for creative studies!!

Jiraiya Post part2 - Sketches -

- Continuing from "Jiraiya Post part1" -
These are some of the sketches that I did when I was designing the new Jiraiya. I tried out a few different directions that I could go with his new design. First off I started out studying some different types of armor and doing drawings of them.

Then I went into designing his helm and armor. When drawing these I was thinking about how I could keep the essentials of the character but changing it to fit this different era. Jiriaya is a summoner who summons frogs so I tried to incorporate that into the design. I added frogs on the helm, chest and knees. I also tried to keep the overall shape of the original the same and just added elements of medieval armor.

A little bit ago I entered the Comic Con Challenge that was on GameArtisans.org. For the contest I had to take a comic character and change it by putting it into a different time period etc. I chose Jiraiya from Naruto and made him into a knight! Here are the reference pages I put together.

This is one of the sketches that will be going out with the Raiden prints that I sell on my Etsy. I decided the other day that I am going to be sending out an original sketch with each of the raiden prints that I sell. There are only 22 of them left so get them before they are all gone.

This sketch above is 9'' by 10.5'' and drawn with a graphite pencil.

Also I wanted to post this piece that I am collaborating with isilme1. I did this character sketch and he is going to be making a 3d model of it. FTW! I will post a link to the final 3d model of it when it's done.

Giant Robot and Etsy!!

Hey guys! Here is a one of my recent digital paintings! It is a giant robot samurai that I painted it in photoshop. It was quite fun messing around with depth and textures.

Also I finally got my online shop going and have a few different prints on there right now!! I will be putting up some cards and other small prints over the next week or so. Eventually I'll have some other cards, large prints, original artwork and more up there too!! :D I am glad I finally got it up and running though, I have wanting to get an online store going for a while now. I was looking up some different ways of selling my prints but ended up going with Etsy.com. I have to work on it a little more on it but I like how it's looking! :D Also the first ten prints that are sold will be sent off with an original sketch of the character or something fun. Thanks guys!

This is a painting I did for Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera's Art Contest. For it I painted a kid dressed up as a fish with a bunch of different aquatic animals around him. The idea was that he dressed up as a fish so that he would be able to talk to all of them. :D

This piece is based off of Bobby Chiu's "Whaleboy" and Kei Acedera's "How I wonder" and "The Jellies - sketch"

It was a fun project, I had fun messing with the color influences and different brushes.

Hey guys, here is a painting of a girl that I finished earlier this past semester! I tried out a different approach and I like how it turned out! I started out with an abstract brush and then went and finished it with a basic round brush in photoshop. :D

Also if you are going to be going to the Motor City Comic Con, May 15-17, make sure to stop by Draw Sucka Draw's table. They will be there all weekend selling our new book of sketches and such. Here are some sketches that I did for my Image Making 1 class. For the project we had to get into a group and make up a video game. Each person had to create 2 non playable characters and something else such as an environment or one of the main characters. We decided to base the video game on the story of Ragnarok from Norse mythology. The first sketch below is of Thor, the main character. I tried to stray away from the normal look of Thor from the comic books and such. The second sketch is of some zombies, non-playable characters.

Paintings From Life

They took somewhere between 5 to 6 hours to paint. I like how they turned out! This semester was the first time I have ever used acrylic paints and it has been a big change from oil paints. I am starting to get used to them and am starting to like them even though I do miss oils ha ha.

Hey guys it has been a little while since my last post and I have been meaning to post for some time now. I have been really busy (as you most likely got from my last post lol) and have been painting and drawing like crazy. I have been working on a digital painting of a Samurai on a Dinosaur for the last little bit. I'm still working on it but here is the line drawing.

I'm liking where it is going and will post the digital painting of it when it is done. :D

Besides that I have just been finishing up some projects for my classes. There are only 5 weeks left until the semester is over! It has gone by sooo fast. It's crazy. Even though this semester is coming to an end soon I am going to be starting a new class this Friday. I am starting my 5 week printmaking class! I can't wait! I have wanted to try printmaking out ever since I became a fan of Yoshitaka Amano. If you don't know who this artist is you should defiantly check him out. He has done prints for video games such as the Final Fantasy series and animated movies and TV shows such as Gatchaman. His artwork is really amazing.

Well this semester has been keeping me really busy so far. I have been taking classes that require me to do a lot of work and it already seems like it is the final week, even tho it isn't even half way through the semester yet. New Semester

Another semester has started (well.. 4 weeks ago) and I have been very busy with that lately. The classes that I am taking are quite difficult but I have been improving in my acrylic painting and marker rendering, which is really cool! I was very excited this past week when my marker renderings improved greatly over just one week! Besides working on projects using those medias I have also been keeping up with my digital painting. Here is a piece that I did for my Image Making which is a digital rendering class. We were supposed to basically just take a sketch and digitally paint it using Photoshop. I did this of corse but then took it into a program called Open Canvas (I painted the character in photoshop and the background in open canvas). The programs pretty fun and I'm liking it. I like messing around with other programs other than the main ones such as Photoshop and such.

But anyways I have a whole folder full of art work that I have been meaning to post and will be posting soon! I have also been working on changing my blog around and will be soon adding a new header, which should be fun.

Here are some oil paintings that i did at Cliff's Saturday drawing clinic. I have been finding it really fun to do these quick paintings that range from 2o mins to 45 mins long. I am getting faster and getting to explore different styles. These were all done on foam core boards which are really great to paint on and cuts the drying time too. I did some today too but they are still a little wet and I don't feel like wiping oil paint all over my scanner.

Here is a painting I did a lil bit ago. As you can tell I am starting to watermark all my artwork to protect it from being used without my consent. I personally don't like how they look and think that they take away from the art but due to recent occurrences i have no other choice. I might change the watermark or ummm add more? idk i will see. :D

Blake's Got a New Face

Well this is an illustration of the song Blake’s got a New Face by Vampire Weekend. I had the idea that Blake's new face was deformed instead of it being better off then it was before. In this painting I was experimenting with a different way to paint, process wise and also color wise. Over all I found this new way very enjoyable and interesting. I like the painterly feel that it has and I think I’m going to work on improving this way of painting. Only time will tell if it will work out in other paintings I guess. Btw I used Sketchbook pro 2 to sketch it out, then did most of what you see in Photoshop. I really like sketchbook pro for sketching but there are some things about the program that bother me and I tend to want to switch over to Photoshop after the painting gets to a certain point. It seems that I have more control of the painting in general in Photoshop but you guys should defiantly check it out if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I think it’s only about $20 for sketchbook pro 2. I did the fat panda mostly in it and the Warrior all in it, so that’s some of the things that you can do in it.
